Memorex Ultra Travel Drive

80GB USB external Drive from Memorex
Memorex Ultra Travel Drive

With 100’s of external hard drives floating around the market place. There isn’t a better time to get one. Companies are packing in the features and the gigabytes at an incredibly fast rate. So how do you stand out from the crowd? Memorex have tried a number of ways. Firstly they offer three cover plates in different colours that come with the Ultra drive. Though this is quiet a gimmicky option to have. And apart from the white that comes with the 80GB drive. The colours are not the most pleasing to the eye. With a dull grey and dim orange also available with the 80GB option.

The drive may not be the smallest of external hard drives but great in the palm of your hand with a solid feel and a nice glowing blue light shinning when plugged in. It comes with backup software which is simple and solid to use. That can be set up to use the “backup” button on the hard drive itself. Making one touch backup possible. A nice feature to be able to have with any external. The black edged curved with a soft touch makes a comfortable grip.

One odd part of the drive is it comes with two USB connections. One with a mini USB to connect to the hard drive and another with a 2.5mm coaxial power connector to give the hard drive enough juice to run smoothly. When most drive simply have a mini USB splitter to do normal USB connections.

On a speed front it fairs fairly well competing well against the western digital 160gb passport. (The guru of external drives). Only really failing to compete when it comes to writing photos to the hard drive.
